Most of the time, a mid to small sized percolator is probably more than adequate. But when providing hot beverages for a large group, a bigger capacity machine is in order. 12 cup coffee percolators are great when hosting big gatherings in your home. Whether this happens often enough to warrant the investment is something to consider. Be aware that sometimes making 1 or 2 cups in a large percolator leads to less than stellar results, so you may not want to use one as your daily coffee maker.
